This year, Verizon created a Halloween commercial that is pretty cute. The whole family traded in their old phones (probably iPhones) for new Androids that have amazing features.
The entire family is dressed in Star Wars costumes, which subconsciously speaks to the power of the phones. Overall, it’s a decent commercial. Not great… but really cute.
And while the commercial has it’s charm, what I really like about it is the marketing suggestion for small business owners who are paying attention.
The commercial is set on a halloween night. Everyone is out trick-or-treating.
At the half-way point of the commercial, the young son says, “We’ve gotta stay away from 32 Elm Street. He’s our dentist… he’s giving out floss!”
The Dad replies, “Weirdo!”
But the fictional dentist isn’t a weirdo — he’s a genius!
Entrepreneurs should always be on the lookout for marketing tactics, especially guerrilla marketing tactics that cost little to no money.
A dentist who hands out floss on Halloween is a brilliant guerrilla marketer. Every dentist should do this every Halloween.
With all the promotional items available, every small business owner should have something for the parents when they bring their kids by on Halloween.
Make it fun. Make friends with your neighbors, and hand out small gifts with your logo, slogan, and phone number on them. You could even hand them your business card.
It might feel weird at first, but it’s worth a shot. No one can blame you for trying. Besides, it might result in a sale.
