Video Marketing with YouTube

Youtube Video Marketing

Every minute, there are 72 hours worth of content uploaded to YouTube. That’s a lot of cat videos!

If you want to stand out amidst all this noise, you need to know how to optimize your videos.

Courtney Gordner wrote a blog post for Jeff Bullas Blog entitled, “How to optimize your youtube video for maximum traffic” which discusses this topic in a bit more depth, but there are really only a couple things you need to know:

1) Keywords

Even if your video is going to be the major piece in your content marketing efforts, you are still going to need text — and lot’s of it! The text (copy) that you use, and the video, should be loaded with keywords.

Keywords are important because people find content by searching. You want to focus on those keywords that they would typically type into the search fields.

In order to stand out in searches, you need to think like a search engine. What would a search engine use to rank content from a social media site?

When it comes to YouTube, you want to focus on the title, description, and tags.

Just remember, it’s not about stuffing keywords that people might search on into the fields. Instead, you want to think long and hard about what a person would most likely search on when they were looking for that content.

If they were searching for cute kitten videos, they would most likely search on “cute kitten videos.” When you marry your content topic to a heavy search term, you have an opportunity to get some nice traffic to the video, and to your site.

Here’s a tip: try identifying the keyword (search phrase) first, then write the copy/script based on that keyword.

2) Creative

In order to stand out on when video marketing on YouTube, you are going to have to do something remarkable. That’s a well chosen term, “remarkable.” It means that people will talk about you.

I can think of plenty of ways to be “remarkable” on the Internet in YouTube videos, but I’d have to embarrass myself and I’m not very enthusiastic about that. You have the same problem. What can you do to attract attention and get noticed?

In lieu of doing anything rash, I suggest you focus on quality first, and learn to post content on a consistent basis. Once you have perfected that, then you can go nuts, get your logo body painted on your naked flesh and walk through the mall, while filming the candid reactions of onlookers.
