The Typical Google Adwords Pay-Per-Click Mistake

Most business owners, even people who should know better, are spending good money to send visitors from Google pay-per-click ads to their website, and are dropping them on a page that has very little pertinent information.

All that does is make the visitor call you, ask for a price, go back to Google, click the next link, and ask them for a price.

This is important for several reasons:

First, Advertising in this way is training people to be price shoppers. Look at your site. Now look at your competitors site. Read the text. Do you see anything that really separates one company from another? Most likely, you won’t. People are busy and frazzled. They don’t have time to learn all about your generic company. You have to get personal with them, wake them up, alert them to danger, or hit them with emotion.

Second, you are spending a lot of money on each click, but you aren’t doing anything to get or keep that customer engaged with you and/or your company.

Lastly, you will begin to assume that you need to lower your price in order to convert more customers from your current PPC ad spend.

The way that 99% of business owners are using Google Adwords, Yahoo, or Bing Pay-per-click is wrong. Here’s some tips:

    1. Don’t try to sell your products in the ad itself. Instead, sell them on visiting your site
    2. Don’t send them to your homepage. Send them to a specific landing page that has been optimized for a specific keyword
    3. Hit them with a message that resonates with them
    4. Drive them to give you their contact information with a free guide, report, or whitepaper with valuable information
    5. Continue to market to them over time – your profits will be increased with repeat purchases
